Highlight your Career Progression. In addition to your Degree in Pharmacy, are there any certifications you have obtained, or are you currently pursuing any that you would like to mention?
My journey in pharmacy began with a Master’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Nottingham. This academic achievement provided me with comprehensive knowledge and skills essential for clinical practice and pharmacy management.
After completing my education, I pursued additional certifications to enhance my expertise. I undertook courses in Medication Therapy Management, Immunisation Practice, and Family Planning, broadening my clinical capabilities and enabling me to offer specialised services to my patients at Georgiolani Pharmacy.
In 2017, I embarked on an entrepreneurial path by opening my first pharmacy in Mombasa. Though this venture eventually led me to make a strategic decision to relocate, the experience was invaluable in shaping my understanding of operational challenges and patient care needs in different settings.
My decision to move to Nairobi proved fruitful. Here, I established a branch of Georgiolani Pharmacy in the vibrant Kilimani area. This location not only thrives but also serves as a testament to my dedication to improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes in the community.
Currently, I am honoured to serve on the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya governing council, where I actively contribute to initiatives aimed at advancing the retail pharmacy space. This role allows me to advocate for improved standards and professional development within the field.
Looking forward, I remain committed to continuous learning and professional growth. I am exploring further certifications and training opportunities that align with my passion for enhancing patient care and expanding the scope of services offered at Georgiolani Pharmacy. My goal is to continue innovating and leading by example in the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of pharmacy practice.
What are you most passionate about in your Pharmacy practice?
My passion lies in my patients. The relationships I build with them, understanding their unique health needs, and guiding them towards better health outcomes fuel my dedication. I am deeply invested in their well-being and believe that personalised care is the cornerstone of effective healthcare.
What do you love about being a Pharmacist?
What I love most about being a pharmacist is making a tangible difference in people’s lives. Each interaction is an opportunity to educate, support, and empower my patients. Whether through medication therapy management or lending a listening ear, I find immense satisfaction in contributing to their health and happiness.
What has been your most challenging moment in the profession and what valuable lessons did you learn from it?
One of the most challenging aspects of my profession has been the fragmentation within the healthcare system. The lack of close collaboration between healthcare professionals often hinders optimal health outcomes for patients. This challenge has taught me the importance of advocating for better communication and cooperation among healthcare providers. It’s a lesson in perseverance and the continuous pursuit of a more integrated approach to patient care.
What keeps you going?
The care I have for my patients is my driving force. Knowing that each day is an opportunity to improve my services and provide better products to meet their needs keeps me motivated. My commitment to constant improvement and innovation ensures that Georgiolani Pharmacy remains a trusted healthcare partner in the community.
In addition to being a Pharmacist, what else do you enjoy doing?
Outside of my pharmacy practice, I have a deep passion for skincare. This passion led me to create and sell my line of face, hair, and body oils under the brand Be Organics. This venture allows me to explore my creativity and share the benefits of natural skincare solutions with a wider audience.
What can you say to the young Pharmacist?
To young pharmacists, my advice is simple: never settle for mediocrity. Believe in yourself and follow your passion, for it is your passion that will drive you to produce your best work. Embrace the challenges, stay committed to learning, and always strive to provide the highest level of care to your patients. The journey may be demanding, but the impact you can make is immeasurable.
