Mirriam Chingeni, a Bachelor of Pharmacy(Hons) graduate from the @University of Malawi, College of Medicine, Malawi.

Where are you currently working, and what does your job entail?

I am one of the Managers at Pharmacare Pharmacies.

My role entails the following:

  1. Daily running of the Pharmacy operations and planning its activities.
  2. Human resource management: Onboarding and proper staff training.
  3. Inventory management: Proper stock management to reduce stockouts and expiries.

What are you most passionate about in your Pharmacy Practice?

Making sure my clients get the best medical advice and services from me. I want them to walk away feeling I am the best they have ever encountered.

What do you love most about being a Pharmacist?

As a Pharmacist, you are the most accessible healthcare practitioner to the public.

Your clients talk to you more sometimes, even than they would their doctor. This makes each client unique and always serves as a learning opportunity for me.

What keeps you going as a Pharmacist?

The fact that I believe this is a calling keeps me going. I believe each person is called upon by God to be where they are for a reason, and it is not a coincidence.

What’s that one thing you enjoy doing apart from being a Pharmacist?

I crochet, so creating new patterns and products is something I really enjoy.

Any advice to the young pharmacist?

There is more to being a Pharmacist than being at that tiny window at the hospital. You will not regret your career choice in Pharmacy.
